By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant George Krahnert, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Krahnert distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 26th Infantry, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during World War I. Sergeant Krahnert displayed zeal and daring as an observer during and after the attack on Cantigny; without orders he moved his telescope into the open where he was in full view of the enemy and exposed to shell fire; by this action he was enabled to see the entire battle and give effectual warning of the massing of troops for counter attacks and the arrival of tanks.
