The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Brigadier General David Lukens Shoemaker Brewster (MCSN: 0-107), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of Staff of the Administrative Command, Fleet Marine Forces, Pacific, for the period of 9 June to 24 August 1944. During this time Brigadier General Brewster, in a duty of great responsibility, rendered invaluable service in the organization and operation of a new administrative command which functioned for all ground Marine forces in the Pacific Ocean Area. He demonstrated outstanding professional ability in coordinating the functions of the command and relieving the combat forces of many problems of administration that otherwise would have encumbered their extensive tactical operations in the Mariana Islands. His outstanding devotion to duty, efficiency, and able professional conduct were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
