The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Eugene P. Boardman (MCSN: 0-8012), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving with a Marine Division. Captain Boardman participated in the Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian operations. He performed his duties at all times in a highly meritorious manner, often under fire and at times in positions of great danger. His loyalty, outstanding service and valorous devotion to duty, over a long period of time and throughout four major operations, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
