The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Colonel Boeker C. Batterton (MCSN: 0-4362), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving as Operations Officer for the Air Defense Command and Fighter Command on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands, from 2 April to 10 June 1945. Colonel Batterton, by his unceasing efforts and complete devotion to duty, organized and operated the operations section of the Air Defense Command in such an efficient manner that all commitments, including strikes, close air support, fighter sweeps and combat air patrols were met on schedule in a highly efficient manner. His efficient actions in this highly difficult and responsible capacity were very instrumental in the success of a most difficult operation and his conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
