The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Master Sergeant James C. Wright, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Flight Mechanic, C-123K Provider at Quan Long Airfield, Republic of Vietnam on 18 October 1969. On that date, Sergeant Wright’s aircraft was hit by hostile automatic weapons fire while landing with critically needed fuel for that besieged airfield. Sergeant Wright’s assistance with speedily discharging the highly volatile fuel and with preparing the aircraft for an immediate takeoff insured the successful completion of that combat essential mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Wright reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
