The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) George A. Washburn, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial combat flights as a 44th Bombardment Group Pilot and airplane commander while completing a tour of missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe during World War II. Displaying great courage and superior piloting skills, Lieutenant Washburn materially aided in the successful completion of these missions, and his actions were an inspiring example for his fellow flyers. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Washburn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Corps.
