The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant George S. Sziraki, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Defensive Fire Control Systems Operator over Southeast Asia on 15 August 1972. On that date, while leading a cell of B-52’s, and while nearing the target area, both aircraft behind his lost all electrical means of maintaining position for a normal release. Although the request for assistance came at the last possible moment, Sergeant Sziraki, having been constantly checking the other aircraft’s positions, delivered the double bonus deal without error, directing both aircraft into the correct position for release. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Sziraki reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
