The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Walter C. Streck, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Streck distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot of the lead ship of a team of light observation helicopters supporting allied ground troops in Kion Tuong Province. While he was searching a heavily wooded area several enemy personnel were found hiding, and he immediately maneuvered his aircraft into position and engaged them. He then called for an insertion of ground troops to locate more enemy positions. While allied troops were advancing, four more enemy soldiers jumped from ambush, placing heavy automatic weapons fire on the friendly troops. Without hesitation, Captain Streck again suppressed the enemy positions. With complete disregard for his own safety, he repeatedly attacked the enemy position until it was silenced. His bravery and professionalism were exemplary. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
