The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Walter R. St. Pierre, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while serving with the 387th Bombardment Group (M), on 3 February 1945. On that date, Lieutenant St. Pierre, during a mission against enemy gun positions in the area of Sinzig, Germany distinguished himself by outstanding aerial skill and courage. Despite the fact that his aircraft sustained severe damage during the initial attack and his bombardier was wounded by enemy fire, Lieutenant St. Pierre retained his position in flight and dropped his bombs with great accuracy upon the target. The aggressiveness and piloting skill exhibited by Lieutenant St. Pierre on this occasion evidenced a devotion to duty in keeping with the finest traditions of the Army Air Forces.
