The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Norman A. Schuele, Jr., United States Army Air Forces, for outstanding achievement as a Pilot of the 365th Fighter Squadron, while participating in aerial flights in the European Theater of Operations from 22 June 1944 to 27 February 1945. On 28 January 1945, Lieutenant Schuele led his squadron against rail and motor traffic in the Homburg-Pirmasens-Bitche area. Despite intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire, the bombing and strafing resulted in severe damage to a marshalling yard, rail line cut, seven box cars destroyed and twenty-nine damaged, two motor transports destroyed and six damaged and four buildings destroyed. The outstanding courage, accuracy and aggressiveness displayed by Lieutenant Schuele on these missions reflects the highest credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces of the United States.
