The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Raymond C. Schleihs, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while serving as pilot of a Flying Fortress of the 390th Bombardment Group (H), on numerous bombardment missions in the air offensive over enemy occupied Continental Europe during World War II. Under the duress of heavy fighter attacks, antiaircraft fire, and often under adverse weather conditions, Lieutenant Schleihs, by his superior airmanship, contributed to the success of all of these operations. The untiring effort, skill and determination under stress of combat displayed by Lieutenant Schleihs are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Army Air Forces of the United States.
