The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Sergeant Daniel M. Sablan, Sr., United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Rescue Flight Engineer near Tan Thanh, Republic of Vietnam on 5 May 1968. On that date, Sergeant Sablan successfully hoisted two critically wounded soldiers from a hostile area. Exposed in the open door of the helicopter to intense hostile fire, he maintained his position until both survivors were safely aboard the aircraft. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Sablan reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
