The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Marshall F. Routledge, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Flight Engineer near Ban Me Thuot, Republic of Vietnam on 28 December 1968. On that date, Sergeant Routledge was greatly responsible for turning an imminent hostile victory into a resounding allied triumph. In spite of turbulence caused by inclement weather, Sergeant Routledge maintained constant gun readiness and illumination for the battle. One hundred and fifty Allied lives were saved and the hostile force was routed. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Routledge reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
