The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major John A. Quinn, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 13 May 1969. On that date, Major Quinn interdicted a heavily defended supply route into the Republic of Vietnam. During his attack, Major Quinn encountered extremely intense hostile ground fire, which tore a large hole through his aircraft’s trailing edge flap. With great determination and superior airmanship, Major Quinn returned the crippled aircraft to its home base and accomplished an emergency landing. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Quinn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
