The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Gerald H. Parshall, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 11 December 1967 as Aircraft Commander of an unarmed EC-121R reconnaissance aircraft on a highly sensitive reconnaissance mission in Southeast Asia. On that date, Major Parshall was required to cope with, under combat conditions, a series of aircraft engine malfunctions which ultimately required him to shut down two engines and make an emergency landing under undesirable conditions. Due to Major Parshall’s outstanding knowledge of the aircraft and superb airmanship, he was able to land the aircraft with its crew of eighteen safely. The aerial skill, professional competence and devotion to duty displayed by Major Parshall reflect great credit upon himself and the Untied States Air Force.
