The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Robert H. Olsen, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a pilot of a B-25 type aircraft. On 8 July 1945 he flew in an attack upon the marshalling yards at Ferrara, Italy. Upon the approach to the target, intense anti-aircraft fire enveloped his formation, forcing his element off course. Displaying great courage and superior flying ability in the face of continued ground fire, he skillfully regained formation, thereby enabling his bombers to release their bombs with devastating effect upon the vital center of enemy communication lines. On sixty-five combat missions his outstanding proficiency and steadfast devotion to duty have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
