The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Lloyd H. Morgan, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Morgan distinguished himself while flying a visual reconnaissance mission in support of the United States Marine Corps near Hue-Phu Bai, Republic of Vietnam. As darkness approached, he observed an unfamiliar looking trench line and while initiating a low pass was shot through the foot and leg. Though painfully wounded he remained over the area long enough to determine the approximate map coordinates from which the hostile fire had come, and then proceeded back toward the Hue-Phu Bai Airfield. With only partial use of his left leg, he skillfully guided his aircraft to a smooth approach and touchdown. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
