The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class George S. McGee, Jr., United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Photographer of a Dive Bomber Plane in Bombing Squadron Sixteen, attached to the U.S.S RANDOLPH, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Japanese Home Islands from July 10 to August 15, 1945. Securing an outstanding photographic coverage of combat operations while flying at low altitudes in the face of frequent anti-aircraft fire, McGee furnished valuable photographs for analysis by interpretation officers in making assessment reports on damage to combatant and merchant shipping and for aircraft counts on enemy airfields. His courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
