The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Airman First Class William B. Martin, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 12 January 1962. On that date, Airman Martin distinguished himself while participating in an operation of extreme sensitivity and unprecedented in nature under the most hazardous of conditions, the results of which have made a direct contribution to the national interest. The exemplary professional skill, courage, and devotion to duty demonstrated by Airman Martin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
