The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Nesbit K. Maluf, Jr., United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in a group daylight low level attack against the strongly fortified enemy stronghold of Iwo Jima while assigned to the 26th Bombardment Squadron, 11th Bombardment Group, Headquarters Seventh Air Force on 17 February 1945. Lieutenant Maluf, as navigator of a heavy bombardment aircraft, performed his duties in such a professional and courageous manner that he was an inspiration to other crew members, and contributed largely to the success of this important strike. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Maluf reflect great credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.
