The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Edwin M. Lavitt, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial combat flight as a Bomber Pilot for the 67th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, EIGHTH Air Force, while completing a tour of missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe. Displaying great courage and superior piloting skills Captain Lavitt materially aided in the successful completion of these missions, and his actions were an inspiring example for his fellow flyers. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Lavitt reflect great credit upon himself and the Army Air Corps.
