The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade [then Ensign] D. Roger Lane, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while serving in Composite Squadron NINETY FOUR, attached to the U.S.S. SHAMROCK BAY, during action against enemy Japanese forces in the Philippine and Ryukyu Islands Areas. Completing his twentieth mission on April 27, 1945, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Lane contributed to the success of his squadron. His gallant devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
