The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Charles H. Welch, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on June 25 & 26, 1876, while serving with Company D, 7th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Little Big Horn, Montana. Sergeant Welch voluntarily brought water to the wounded under fire.
