The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert H. Jones, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller/Flare Ship Navigator under combat conditions in Southeast Asia on 17 January 1968. On that date, Captain Jones accurately directed the dropping and placement of ground marker flares on an extensive supply storage and truck park complex of an opposing hostile force. Despite the constant threat of hostile ground fire from numerous antiaircraft gun emplacements, Captain Jones pinpointed and relayed target intelligence to the armed support aircraft in the area. Through his superior airmanship, he was a vital factor in the destruction of 12 vehicles and three antiaircraft gun positions, the heavy damage inflicted on numerous other vehicles and large fires and numerous secondary explosions which inflicted extensive damage to the supply storage complex. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Jones reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
