The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Edwin L. Jackson, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a C-130B Aircraft Commander near Dong Ha, Republic of Vietnam on 16 August 1968. On that date, Major Jackson was flying an important re-supply mission in support of friendly forces operating near Dong Ha when he came under heavy hostile fire. Although his aircraft was seriously damaged, he successfully delivered his essential cargo. Then, through the exercise of superb airmanship, he was able to fly his crippled aircraft to a safe recovery area, although he received additional battle damage shortly after take off. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Jackson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
