The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Fred S. Hudson, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot while over hostile territory on 28 December 1968. On that date, Major Hudson was element lead in a flight of four F-105’s on a strike against a heavily defended road and resupply line. Disregarding his own personal safety in the face of extremely poor visibility, rapidly deteriorating light conditions, and heavy hostile fire, Major Hudson made repeated bombing and strafing attacks against the guns firing at his flight and was successful in silencing one of the guns thus allowing his flight to attack their primary target with a considerably reduced risk. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Hudson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
