The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Harry T. Holzman, Jr., United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Chief Warrant Officer Holzman distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander of a transport helicopter near Xom Truong Toc. While performing a low-level visual reconnaissance of a village, his aircraft came under heavy anti-aircraft machinegun and small arms fire. The left side of the aircraft and the cockpit area were damaged extensively. Chief Warrant Officer Holzman was wounded by shrapnel from the console area, but utilized evasive techniques to withdraw from the intense fire. Ordinarily an aircraft damaged as badly as his would have been forced to land as soon as possible, but he was informed that his crew chief was seriously wounded He decided to fly to the nearest medical facility regardless of the possibility of crashing in order to save the life of his crew chief. Through his expertise in handling the crippled aircraft, he undoubtedly saved the lives of those onboard. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
