The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Ronald G. Harris, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Instructor Navigator, 345th Tactical Airlift Squadron, near Kampong Thom, Cambodia, on 25 February 1971. On that date, Major Harris accomplished an emergency airdrop of 32,000 pounds of critically needed fuel to a beleaguered Cambodian outpost that was cut off from normal supply routes by three hostile troop concentrations of battalion size. Using combat profile techniques, he delivered the fuel within fifty yards of the planned impact point in spite of heavy automatic weapons fire in the target area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Harris reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
