The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Master Sergeant Alfred E. Hanson, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flying as AC-47 Loadmaster near Tuy Hoa, republic of Vietnam, on 30 August 1967. On that date, Sergeant Hanson flew to the defense of the hamlet of Tuy Hoa and nearby friendly positions which were under heavy hostile attack and in danger of being overrun. In spite of severe turbulence, mountainous terrain, and shortage of fuel and extensive hostile ground fire, Sergeant Hanson coordinated the precise handling, setting and dropping of flares which aided in bringing the maximum firepower on the hostile attack and preventing the friendly positions from being overrun. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Hanson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
