The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Allen W. Hamman, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Aircraft Commander at Khe Sanh, Republic of Vietnam, on 24 January 1968. On that date, Major Hamman delivered 28,000 pounds of ammunition to the besieged outpost. Though faced with adverse weather conditions and hostile artillery activity, he calmly and professionally directed his crew through the perilous environment. Major Hamman then supervised the rapid off-loading of supplies and the on-loading of thirty-five wounded soldiers during a mortar attack on the field to successfully complete this vital mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Hamman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
