The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Joseph L. Green, United States Army Air Forces, for heroic and outstanding achievement while participating in aerial flights in the European Theater of Operations Lieutenant Green has exhibited unusual tactical skill and resourcefulness while leading a flight of P-47 type aircraft on many combat missions over occupied France. Despite the gray hazards presented by intense anti-aircraft fire from gun emplacements he has pressed forward the attack with calm disregard for his own personal safety. While engaging the foe in aerial battle he has revealed an intense zeal and fighting spirit which have served to inspire the other members of his organization. Lieutenant Green’s eminent skill and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Army Air Forces.
