The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Sheldon A. Goldberg, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a F-4D Navigator over Southeast Asia on 2 February 1970. On that date, Captain Goldberg led a flight of four F-4D aircraft which attacked a group of revetted antiaircraft artillery sites located in one of the most heavily defended areas of Southeast Asia. Completely disregarding his own personal safety, Captain Goldberg pressed his attacks to the lowest possible altitude, silencing the most active gun site, thus allowing the other flight members to destroy it and several others in the immediate vicinity. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Goldberg reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
