The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Edward R. Glotfelty, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while serving as pilot of a B-24 aircraft on a heavy bombardment mission over enemy occupied France, 25 June 1944. On the withdrawal from the target, a burst of anti-aircraft fire hit one engine and disabled it. When several moments later two more engines stopped functioning, he maneuvered his plane in an attempt to land at a small field in friendly territory. Just before landing the last engine went dead. With great skill he crash-landed his plane without injury to the crew members. The cool courage, piloting ability and presence of mind displayed by this officer reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.
