The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Paul L. Faust, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty while serving as Pilot of an AH-1G helicopter of the 227th Aviation Battalion (assault Helicopter) (Airmobile) 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in the Republic of Cambodia. Captain Faust distinguished himself by valorous action on 9 May 1970, when he made repeated sweeps into the landing zone, drawing the enemy fire and allowing the evacuation ship to complete its mission. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
