The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant Paul W. DePew, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam. On 8 November 1967 Sergeant Depew was flying as a aerial gunner aboard a C-130 Gunship in Southeast Asia during an armed reconnaissance mission against unfriendly ground forces. During the mission numerous hostile targets were attacked and firing was directed on each target. His outstanding performance at all times contributed to the destruction or damage to twenty vehicles carrying vitally needed supplies to enemy troops. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Depew on this and many other missions reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
