The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Larry W. Bufton, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Pilot for the 50th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Kontum, Republic of Vietnam, on 12 June 1972. On that date, Captain Bufton flew a night combat essential resupply mission of critically needed ammunition and supplies to a besieged concentration of allied forces. In spite of anti-aircraft fire and the threat of heat-seeking missiles, Captain Bufton was able to deliver his cargo without incident. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Bufton reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
