    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Harold E. Bryant (MCSN: 0-27227), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Philippine Islands Area from 6 April 1945 to 13 April 1945. First Lieutenant Bryant completed forty missions in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred and on one or more of these missions such enemy opposition was encountered. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Harold E. Bryant (MCSN: 0-27227), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter Plane in Marine Fighting Squadron THREE HUNDRED THIRTEEN during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Philippine Islands Area, from 29 January to 20 February 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, First Lieutenant Bryant contributed materially to the success of his squadron. His airmanship, courage and devotion to duty in the face of enemy fire were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
