The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Colonel William Bruenner, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the Electronic Warfare Officer of an unarmed EB-66 over Southeast Asia on 30 October 1972. On that date, while trying to make up lost time for a late take off, his aircraft had to pass over two known surface-to-air missile sites. He was able to successfully counter these threats and arrive on station on time to provide countermeasures and warning support to the entire strike force. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Bruenner reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
