The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Lawrence L. Brown, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-7-A Flight Examiner near Ban Me Thout City, Republic of Vietnam on 19 August 1968. On that date, Major Brown flew his aircraft into Ban Me Thout City Airfield and evacuated seriously wounded soldiers. While proceeding to the briefed staging hospitals, Major Brown was advised by the male nurse on board that three of the seriously wounded would not survive if he continued the mission as briefed. At this time, Major Brown decided to change course for Nha Trang where medical facilities for both Civilian Irregular Defense Group and American personnel were available. Combining his knowledge of the terrain, ability to navigate by radar, and superior airmanship, Major Brown flew a smooth mission, during which patients received emergency treatment. As a result, all the patients on board survived their combat wounds. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Brown reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
