The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Private First Class Sonny D. Bargala, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam while serving with Company C, 229th Aviation (Assault Helicopter) (Airmobile), 1st Air Cavalry Division. Private First Class Bargala distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 27 June 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. When the base came under ground attack, the aircraft in which private First Class Bargala served, arrived in the area and placed suppressive fire on the aggressors. His outstanding ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
