The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) David H. Arno, United States Army Air Forces, for outstanding achievement in aerial flight. Lieutenant Arno piloted his P-47 type aircraft with eminent technical skill and demonstrated steadfast courage in action against the enemy while participating in a dive bombing mission over occupied territory on 12 September 1944. Under the extremely trying conditions produced by intense, accurate anti-aircraft fire he executed a highly successful dive-bombing attack in which he destroyed two enemy gun positions. Lieutenant Arno’s exhibition of bravery and keen flying technique is exemplary of the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
