The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John H. Webb, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight. First Lieutenant Webb distinguished himself by heroic actions on 28 November 1968, while serving with Company A, 25th Aviation Battalion in the Republic of Vietnam. Lieutenant Webb was the aircraft commander of the Command and Control aircraft for the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, when Company A came under an intense enemy attack. Due to the tactical situation and absolute necessity for the ground commander to have his units under observation, Lieutenant Webb flew through extremely adverse conditions which forced him to orbit below 1500 feet because cloud cover at that altitude. Despite the extreme danger from enemy fire, Lieutenant Webb remained over the friendly units’ location and provided the ground force commander with control over his troops. Lieutenant Webb’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
