The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Dennis O. Urick, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Urick distinguished himself on 7 March 1971 while serving as aircraft commander of a UH-1H utility helicopter during an emergency extraction in northern Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. As he approached the landing zone, he flew at a low level because of the heavy concentration of enemy in the area. In order to reach the beleaguered troops, he had to cut brush with his rotor blades. Despite the constant threat of enemy fire, he skillfully completed the mission without sustaining any casualties. Captain Urick’s outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
