The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Max O. Taylor, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot, RF-101, over North Vietnam on 28 July 1965 and 29 July 1965. On those dates, Captain Taylor flew the wing position in a flight of two unarmed and unescorted RF-101’s into a very heavily defended hostile area on a vital reconnaissance mission. Although subjected to intense and accurate automatic weapons fire, Captain Taylor and his leader, through courage and superior airmanship, completed the mission with outstanding results. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Taylor reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
