The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Alfred G. Siebecke, United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight against the enemy as bombardier navigator of a jet aircraft while attached to Attack Squadron FIFTY-TWO embarked on U.S.S. KITTY HAWK (CVA 63). On 6 May 1972, Lieutenant Commander Siebecke led a thirty-five plane, highly successful coordinated air wing attack against a petroleum products storage area at Nam Dinh, North Vietnam. Undaunted by the firing of four surface-to-air missiles and intense anti-aircraft artillery fire, he unerringly navigated the strike group to the target and aided his pilot in executing a devastating bombing attack on the storage area which resulted in total destruction of the target.
