The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Robert S. Sherman, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an EB-66C Electronic Warfare Officer over North Vietnam on 24 October 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Sherman’s unarmed electronic warfare aircraft provided valuable electronic support against the unfriendly radars which were tracking the combat operations flown against Phuc Yen Airfield. His exceptionally commendable performance in the face of personal danger from hostile fire was a vital factor in denying electronic information to the unfriendly foreign forces and a major contribution to the successful outcome of this dangerous tactical mission of the United States Air Force. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Sherman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
