The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain John C. Morrissey, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the pilot of a Republic F-105 Thunderchief over North Vietnam on 24 April 1968. On that date, Captain Morrissey was a member of a four-ship flight executed against numerous supply trucks and river barges in a highly defended area. In spite of the heavy defenses, Captain Morrissey made continuous aggressive attacks delivering all ordnance on the multiple targets. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Morrissey reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
