The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Third Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Waldemar D. Krueger, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an A-1 pilot in Southeast Asia on 7 April 1970. On that date, he was launched as a Sandy for a rescue mission of a downed aircrew deep in hostile territory. The survivors were surrounded by heavy caliber anti-aircraft batteries and numerous hostile troops who were constantly directing a heavy barrage of fire at the rescue forces. Through superior airmanship and ingenious planning, Major Krueger was instrumental in effecting the rescue of the two pilots. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Krueger reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
