The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Waldemar D. Krueger, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an A-1H pilot near Ben Het Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 1 September 1969. On that date, Major Krueger saved the lives of many American and Free World Forces personnel by flying under hostile fire through extremely hazardous weather and rough terrain to support an encircled patrol deep in hostile territory. Although his aircraft was damaged, Major Krueger, flying as a single aircraft, made repeated bombing and strafing passes pinning down the hostile forces long enough for the patrol to establish a strong defensive position from which they were subsequently rescued. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Krueger reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
