The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Tony N. Hatcher, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Hatcher distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 10 November 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. When a ground troop was engaged in heavy fighting with a hostile force and was in urgent need of additional ammunition, Warrant Officer Hatcher volunteered to attempt the critical resupply. When he arrived on station, Warrant Officer Hatcher’s aircraft came under intense enemy anti-aircraft fire from several enemy emplacements. Despite the intensity of the environment, Warrant Officer Hatcher, with complete disregard for his own safety, maneuvered his aircraft into the hostile fire zone and courageously completed the vital resupply of the needed ammunition. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
